This substance is called Epitalon and it was developed by Professor Vladimir Khavinson and his team, based on discoveries made by two specialists in the biology of aging, Professor Vladimir Dilman and Dr. Ward Dean, developed. Indeed, these two researchers published an article in 1992, “The neuroendocrine theory of aging and degenerative disease,” describing their discovery of a substance that increased the lifespan of rats by 25%.

Professor Vladimir Khavinson has continued the research by applying it to human beings.

He is himself a biogerontologist, that is, a specialist in the biological mechanisms of aging, and he has noticed that the epitalon has indeed worked in the deepest part of cell aging, that is, on the lifespan of the cells themselves. It causes a significant extension of the lifespan of healthy cells and a reduction in the lifespan of sick cells and the cancer cells emerge.

Understanding Cell Aging

To fully understand the revolutionary aspect of this discovery, one must know that normal and healthy cells are programmed to divide, producing “daughter cells” that allow the “mother cells” to die and through the younger cells get replaced.

This remarkable mechanism explains the longevity of living things. In your entire organism, your cells are constantly being renewed so that your organs can regenerate completely. The period varies from a few days for the intestines to about ten years for the skeleton.

There is nothing surprising about this phenomenon: cells have stopped dividing, aging leads to the cessation of functions, disease, and ultimately death.

The researchers have therefore asked themselves the question of why healthy cells suddenly stop dividing. You noticed that this mechanism is associated with the telomeres, protective caps at the end of the chromosomes that wear off a bit with each cell division.

The more the frequencies of cell division multiply or the more oxidative stress there is, the more the telomeres shorten. But when the telomeres reach a certain critical size, the genetic material itself is attacked. As a result, the cell no longer has the integrity of the genetic information it needs to function. She becomes senescent.

Much research has confirmed that the progressive shortening of telomeres would be associated with numerous pathologies (cardiovascular diseases, infectious diseases, etc.) associated with aging and would also be predictive of premature mortality in the elderly.

Conversely, this means that if one could manage to lengthen the telomeres or prevent them from shortening with every cell division, the stage of senescence could be postponed significantly.

And the latest research just showed that it was possible thanks to an enzyme that stimulates telomeres to grow. This enzyme is called telomerase.

The discoveries of telomeres were so critical to human progress that no fewer than three Nobel Prizes in Medicine were awarded for discoveries in this domain.

Three Nobel Prizes in Medicine

After Hermann Muller in 1946 and Barbara McClintock in 1983, three Americans, Elisabeth Blackburn, Carol Greider, and Jack Szostak received the Nobel Prize in Physiology (Medicine) in 2009 for discoveries related to telomeres.

As for the 2009 Nobel Prize, progress is particularly critical as it is directly associated with telomerase, the telomeric activating enzyme.

Telomerase rebuilds the ends of the telomeres to their original length after each cell division, thus stopping the biological clock of death.
